THE COMPLETE FIT CHECK · CHECKED 2026-10-07

Will that cooler
fit your build?

Check five things: the CPU rating, supplied cooler height, memory clearance, motherboard and mounting hardware. Socket support by itself doesn’t answer all five.

1. Start with the exact processor.

Noctua’s list marks the NH-L9a-AM5 as unable to maintain the Ryzen 7 7800X3D’s base clock under sustained load. It mounts on AM5, but that does not make it an appropriate candidate for this processor. The Ryzen 5 7600 has a different manufacturer rating.

2. Compare the supplied height with case clearance.

The NH-D12L is 145mm tall. The NH-U12A and NH-U12S redux are 158mm, and the NH-D15 G2 is 168mm in its supplied configuration. Use the case maker’s CPU-cooler clearance. An equal number leaves no spare tolerance; confirm the exact case in the manufacturer’s list.

3. Account for the fan above your RAM.

The standard NH-D15 G2’s supplied two-fan setup clears RAM up to 32mm. Raising the front fan for taller RAM also increases total height. Removing a fan changes the configuration; don’t reuse the original height and performance assumptions.

4. Check the motherboard, not only the socket.

Heatsinks, component layouts and mounting positions can conflict with a cooler. Use the exact motherboard model and revision in Noctua’s compatibility list. An unlisted board remains unverified.

5. Check the actual package.

Confirm the socket mounting kit in the seller’s package, particularly older stock. Our product pages identify the standard variant and included fans and compound; they don’t price unverified extra brackets or promise a seller’s inventory.
